Lunt Hydrogen-Alpha Blocking Filters - choose between B600, B1200, B1800, or B3400 - available in Diagonal or Straight-Through Tube
Blocking Filters are required on all Lunt Telescopes
Lunt Solar Systems offers a choice of four different blocking filter options for our Etalon systems.
There are four options, you can choose the one that works best for what you want to see or take pictures of.
The Blocking Filter is crucial for safety and making sure the solar package works well. Our blocking filters have a special system.
It's important to note that we can only assure safety and performance when you use one of our blocking filters with a Lunt H-alpha filter or telescope.
To find the right blocking filter, check the suggestions below for either looking at the Sun or taking pictures of it.
Also, consider the focal length of your telescope for solar work. Then, choose the blocking filter you need.
Options available are the B400 for the Lunt 50mm H-Alpha Scope, the B500 for the Lunt 40mm H-Alpha Scope, and the B600, B1200, B1800, & B3400 Filters (see breakdown below for details on suggested Focal Lengths & use cases for these specific Filters).
Focal Length Suggestions for Visual Use:
- B400: For visual use on the Lunt 50mm H-Alpha Telescope
- B500: For visual use on the Lunt 40mm H-Alpha Telescope
- B600: For visual use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 600mm
- B1200: For visual use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 1200mm
- B1800: For visual use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 1800mm
- B3400: For visual use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 3400mm
Focal Length Suggestions for Imaging Use:
When imaging with a Lunt Solar System it is advised that the user opt for the next larger blocking filter than that recommended for visual use.
This is due to the fact that most imaging systems require additional “back focus”. It’s important to realize that the blocking filter be moved further up the light cone.
As a result, the aperture of the blocking filter needs to be larger to allow for the larger cone size.
- B600: For imaging use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 400mm
- B1200: For imaging use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 600mm
- B1800: For imaging use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 1200mm
- B3400: For imaging use on telescopes with focal lengths up to 1800mm
Lunt Solar Blocking Filter Housing Options:
- 1.25″ or 2″ diagonal with T2 connection
- 2″ extension tube with T2 and 2″ connection, aka “straight-through”
Features:
- Essential Component: The Lunt Blocking Filter is an indispensable component required for the safe use of any Lunt solar filter or solar telescope product. It ensures a secure and protected viewing experience when observing the Sun.
- Safety Filters: Housed within the blocking filter are additional safety filters crucial for maintaining a secure environment while observing solar activities. These filters contribute to the overall safety and performance of the solar viewing system.
- Compatibility Requirement: It is imperative to use a Lunt brand blocking filter when utilizing a Lunt Solar Systems telescope or filter. This compatibility ensures optimal performance and safety standards.
- Aperture Options: The blocking filters come in three different apertures (6mm, 12mm, 18mm, 34mm), providing users with options to match their specific needs, considering factors such as applications, focuser size, and telescope focal length.
- 6mm, 12mm, 18mm Blocking Filters: The 12mm blocking filter is available in two housing options: a 1.25″ or 2″ diagonal housing, or 2" straight-through extension tube. This flexibility accommodates various telescope configurations.
