Introducing the Explore Scientific ED80mm f/6 Essential Series Air-Spaced Triplet Refractor Telescope, a remarkable instrument for exploring the celestial wonders of the night sky.

This telescope, with its genuine HOYA FCD1 ED glass, offers true diffraction-limited optics, allowing you to immerse yourself in the captivating lunar landscapes, the exquisite rings of Saturn, or the dazzling treasures of the Messier catalog.

Crafted with an air-spaced triplet optical design, this telescope effectively eliminates chromatic aberrations, ensuring that your viewing experience is marked by brilliant, high-contrast images.

Through the integration of HOYA extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and proprietary EMD enhanced multi-layer deposition coatings on all optical surfaces, this telescope achieves exceptional optical clarity.

While the ED80 stands out on its own, its compact size makes it ideal for spontaneous stargazing sessions.

Additionally, it can be seamlessly mounted on a larger telescope, adding versatility to your astrophotography endeavors by dividing the guiding and imaging responsibilities.

The telescope tube boasts an outer diameter of 91 mm.

Equipped with the Explore Scientific 2" rack-and-pinion focuser, complete with two extension tubes, and featuring the Explore Scientific Hybrid Finder Scope Base pre-installed (note: finder scope not included), this telescope is your gateway to an immersive and rewarding astronomical journey.

Features:

  • 80mm Objective Lens: The telescope boasts an 80mm objective lens, providing a substantial aperture for collecting light and delivering clear and detailed views of celestial objects. This ample aperture is ideal for capturing intricate lunar features and revealing deep-sky treasures with remarkable clarity.
  • 157x Highest Useful Magnification: With a maximum usable magnification of 157x, this telescope allows you to observe celestial targets with impressive detail and clarity, making it suitable for a wide range of astronomical observations. Whether you're studying distant galaxies or fine lunar craters, this telescope brings distant objects up close.
  • 480mm Focal Length: The telescope has a focal length of 480mm, which strikes a balance between wide-field and high-magnification views, making it versatile for various astronomical applications. This focal length ensures that you can explore both expansive star fields and intricate planetary details.
  • True Apochromatic Design: This telescope features a true apochromatic design, which virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations, ensuring that the images are sharp and color-fringe-free. This optical excellence allows for stunningly accurate renditions of celestial objects.
  • Genuine HOYA FCD1 ED Glass: Equipped with genuine HOYA FCD1 ED glass, the telescope's optics deliver exceptional color correction and contrast, enhancing your viewing experience. The ED glass ensures that the colors of stars and planets remain true and vibrant.
  • Air-Spaced Triplet Optical Design: The air-spaced triplet optical design further enhances image quality by reducing optical aberrations, resulting in brilliant, high-contrast views. This design ensures that you see celestial objects as they were meant to be seen.
  • EMD Enhanced Multi-Layer Coatings: All optical surfaces are coated with proprietary EMD enhanced multi-layer deposition coatings, maximizing light transmission and reducing reflections for optimal image brightness. These coatings enhance the telescope's light-gathering capabilities, making faint objects more accessible.
  • Compact and Portable: The telescope's compact size makes it perfect for on-the-go stargazing sessions, encouraging spontaneous astronomical exploration. Its portability means you can set up quickly and easily for celestial observations in various locations.
  • Mountable on Larger Telescopes: Its compatibility with larger telescopes allows it to serve as a guide scope, separating guiding and imaging functions for astrophotography enthusiasts. This dual-purpose capability enhances the versatility of your astrophotography setup.
  • 2" Rack-and-Pinion Focuser: Featuring a 2" rack-and-pinion focuser with two extension tubes, this telescope provides precise focusing control for sharp, detailed observations. This focuser ensures that you can bring celestial objects into sharp focus effortlessly.
  • Hybrid Finder Scope Base: The Explore Scientific Hybrid Finder Scope Base comes pre-installed, facilitating the attachment of a finder scope (not included) for easy target acquisition. This feature simplifies the process of locating and tracking celestial objects, especially for beginners.
  • Included Accessories: Consist of a 2" Diagonal for enhanced image reflection, a 2" Two-Speed Rack and Pinion Focuser with Ext Tubes for precise focusing control, a Dew Shield for moisture prevention, a Vixen-Style Dovetail for secure telescope mounting, a versatile Hybrid Finder Scope Base for flexible attachment options, and a Limited 1-year warranty for assurance and support.

One little problem, otherwise a good telescope

Received the telescope in good condition and quick delivery. Haven't used it yet as dovetail won't fit the tripod mounting by about 1 mm. Working to find a solution to that problem, getting a dovetail to match the equipment I have now. This telescope should be just the thing for astrophotography.

Focusing knobs set screws keep loosening, vixen mount plate base needs a rider. More but it's ok. Scope works great on not to distant deep space objects, depending on size and camera you have.

                                                    Incredibly powerful refractor

Initially, I didn’t believe the quality of views that this Scope could produce. When I received it, I quickly realized that this was a serious Telescope! If I want to get nice sharp images of Saturn, and other planets, I’ll throw on a 4.5mm Eyepiece with a 2x Barlow lens. The magnification that this combo produces is absolutely perfect for getting views that will blow your mind! If you’re looking for a compact and portable refractor, I can’t recommend the ED80 enough.
