DayStar Quantum 0.4Å PE Solar Filter - Sodium D-Line - NAD.4UNI
The DayStar Quantum 0.4Å PE Solar Filter in Sodium D-Line variant is designed for deployment with refractors, SCTs, and Maksutovs.
The package comprises front and rear plates, a power supply, comprehensive instructions, and a sturdy hard case for safekeeping.
To achieve optimal performance within the F/27-F/35 focal ratio range, it is recommended to use in conjunction with a UV/IR cut filter, as well as either a Powermate Barlow or a stop down mask.
DayStar proudly offers Sodium Na-D line (5895.9Å) filtering systems suitable for both visual and photographic observing.
These filter assemblies are meticulously designed for sub-angstrom precision with a single-cavity construction, allowing for the capture of the exceptionally narrow yet brilliantly bright Sodium lines.
The Na D line is emitted when the lower chromosphere is heated, typically at the foot points of flux loops passing through a flare, as sodium D line reflects the lower chromosphere.
They can also be heated to facilitate transmission on the higher of the two Na D lines, enabling Doppler studies.
By photographing in each line and deriving difference images after subtracting an average solar velocity image, a Dopplergram velocity image is produced.
While these filters have primarily served research purposes, conducting Doppler and supergranulation studies, narrow bandpass Na D line filters have also found applications in deep-sky observations of IO, particularly with significantly larger apertures.
Features & Highlights:
- Precision Sodium D-Line Filtering: This filter is meticulously designed to specifically isolate the Sodium D-Line at 5895.9Å. It allows for sub-angstrom observations, capturing the narrow and intense Sodium lines with exceptional accuracy.
- Suitable for Visual and Photographic Observations: The filter is versatile and can be used for both visual and photographic studies of the Sun. This makes it a valuable tool for astronomers and astrophotographers looking to capture detailed images and conduct studies of solar phenomena.
- Single-Cavity Design: The filter is engineered with a single-cavity design, enhancing its precision and performance. This design ensures that the filter operates with optimal efficiency, allowing for high-quality observations.
- High Detail in Granulation, Supergranulation, and P-Modes: With a narrow filter of < 0.5Å, the DayStar Quantum 0.4Å PE Solar Filter provides exceptionally detailed images of solar features such as granulation, supergranulation, and P-modes. This allows for in-depth studies of the Sun's surface activities.
- Impulsive-Phase Flare Eruption Kernels: The filter is capable of capturing impulsive-phase flare eruption kernels. This feature is crucial for studying dynamic and transient solar events, providing valuable insights into the Sun's behavior during flares.
- Reflection of Lower Chromosphere: The Sodium D-Line reflects the lower chromosphere, making it an essential tool for studying the lower layers of the solar atmosphere. This property enables researchers to gain a deeper understanding of solar dynamics.
- University Series Filters for Doppler Studies: The filter is part of the University series, which means it can be used unheated on the lower Na D emission line. Additionally, it can be heated to facilitate transmission on the higher Na D line, allowing for Doppler studies. This capability is instrumental in investigating surface motions associated with supergranulation.
- Research-Grade Quality: The DayStar Quantum 0.4Å PE Solar Filter is designed to meet the rigorous demands of research applications. Its high-quality construction and precision make it a valuable tool for advanced solar studies.
- Deep-Sky Observations of IO with Larger Apertures: In addition to solar observations, narrow bandpass Na D line filters like this one have found applications in deep-sky observations of IO, particularly when used with significantly larger apertures.
