Explore Scientific ED102mm f/7 Air-Spaced APO Triplet Refractor

Introducing the Explore Scientific ED102mm f/7 Essential Series Air-Spaced Triplet APO Refractor Telescope, a true marvel of celestial observation.

This refractor telescope, part of the Essential Series, belongs to the rare breed of apochromat refractors, designed to unveil the intricate details of our Moon's chiseled craters, showcase the orderly cloud belts of Jupiter, and bring the Orion Nebula's blue-white stars to life amidst their ethereal misty backdrop.

The ED102 Essential Series Apochromatic Refractor is your gateway to a captivating night sky experience, serving as a steadfast optical foundation for those embarking on serious deep sky astrophotography.

Balancing portability and aperture with finesse, this high-end telescope boasts diffraction-limited optics and an objective lens size that excels in lunar, planetary, and deep sky observations.

Its air-spaced triplet optical design is a triumph over chromatic aberrations, ensuring the creation of brilliant, high-contrast images.

This excellence is achieved through the fusion of genuine HOYA FCD1 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and exclusive EMD enhanced multi-layer coatings.

Included with the telescope are 2 extension tubes for the 2" rack-and-pinion focuser, as well as the Explore Scientific 2N1 Finder Scope Base pre-installed on the scope (finder scope not included).

For an even more immersive experience, we recommend the following accessories: the EXOS II Mount with GOTO System, Twilight II Mount, Twilight I Mount, Soft-Sided Carry Case, and the AstroZap 4” Dew Heater Strap.

  • 102mm Objective Lens: This telescope is equipped with a high-quality 102mm (4 inches) objective lens, which allows for exceptional light-gathering capabilities. The larger objective lens diameter enhances image brightness and resolution, making it ideal for detailed observations of celestial objects.
  • 714mm Focal Length: With a generous focal length of 714mm, this telescope strikes a balance between magnification and field of view. This length enables clear and crisp views of both celestial objects up-close and wider-field observations.
  • 200x Highest Useful Magnification: The telescope is capable of providing a maximum useful magnification of 200x. This means it can deliver detailed views of the Moon's surface features, the cloud bands of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and many deep-sky objects, all at impressive levels of magnification.
  • Air-Spaced Triplet Optical Design: The telescope features an advanced air-spaced triplet optical design. This design incorporates three lens elements, meticulously spaced to eliminate chromatic aberrations. As a result, it delivers high-contrast, true-color images with minimal color fringing, ensuring the utmost image quality.
  • Apochromatic (APO) Refractor: Being an apochromatic refractor, this telescope excels in correcting chromatic aberrations. It ensures that different colors of light come to a common focus point, resulting in sharp, color-accurate views of celestial objects, including stars, planets, and deep-sky targets.
  • Diffraction-Limited Optics: The optics of this telescope are designed to be diffraction-limited, ensuring that the instrument's optical performance is not limited by imperfections in the lens or mirrors. This results in high-resolution and pinpoint star images.
  • HOYA FCD1 ED Glass: The telescope incorporates genuine HOYA FCD1 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass. This premium glass minimizes optical distortions and enhances color correction, contributing to sharper and more detailed images.
  • Enhanced Multi-Layer Coatings (EMD): Proprietary enhanced multi-layer coatings are applied to the lenses to increase light transmission and reduce reflections, thus improving image contrast and brightness.
  • 2" Rack-and-Pinion Focuser: The telescope comes with a 2-inch rack-and-pinion focuser, which provides smooth and precise focusing. This robust focuser accommodates various eyepieces and accessories, allowing for versatile viewing experiences.
  • Included Accessories: The package includes 2 extension tubes for the focuser and the Explore Scientific 2N1 Finder Scope Base pre-installed on the scope (finder scope not included). These accessories enhance the functionality and ease of use of the telescope.
  • Versatile Observations: The telescope's combination of aperture and focal length makes it suitable for a wide range of celestial observations, including lunar, planetary, and deep-sky viewing. It is a versatile instrument that can capture the beauty of both nearby and distant objects in the night sky.
  • Recommended Accessories: For an enhanced observing experience, Explore Scientific recommends optional accessories such as the EXOS II Mount with GOTO System, Twilight II Mount, Twilight I Mount, Soft-Sided Carry Case, and the AstroZap 4” Dew Heater Strap, which can complement the telescope's capabilities.

                                                      Recommended accessories:

For continuous stargazing without disruptions caused by dew formation, safeguarding optical clarity and protecting your valuable equipment, explore the AstroZap 4-inch Dew Heater Strap—an ideal accessory designed specifically for the ED102mm Air-Spaced Triplet Telescope.

AstroZap - Dew Heaters and Controllers
