Explore Scientific Generation II 16-inch f/4.5 Truss Tube Dobsonian Telescope - ES-DOB1645-00

Discover the Explore Scientific Generation II 16-inch f/4.5 Truss Tube Dobsonian Telescope, a cutting-edge iteration of this remarkable telescope design.

With all necessary updates and enhancements meticulously integrated, this Generation II model takes stargazing to a whole new level.

Before the advent of the Dobsonian telescope pioneered by John Dobson, amateur astronomy was confined to small, mechanically primitive devices that offered limited celestial observations.

Telescopes with substantial capabilities, like the Schmidt-Cassegrain, were reserved for the affluent few.

The genius behind the Dobsonian lies in its marriage of simplicity and efficiency, offering unmatched light-gathering prowess at an exceptional value.

Its tool-free disassembly facilitates effortless transportation, even in compact vehicles.

The entire structure has been engineered for maximum rigidity while minimizing weight, ensuring precision adjustments even at high magnifications.

The Dobsonian telescope is the go-to instrument for deep-sky enthusiasts, boasting a colossal 406mm mirror that captures over 2,400 times the light visible to the naked eye.

This immense light-gathering capability reveals intricate planetary features and unveils the hidden treasures of deep-sky objects, making it accessible even to newcomers.

Star clusters shine brilliantly down to their cores, and observing the lunar terminator becomes an unforgettable experience.

Equipped with a 2" focuser featuring helical gearing and a 10:1 reduction ratio, an LED Red Dot Finder, a collimation assist tool, a soft light baffle, and dual radial main mirror fans for rapid temperature equilibrium, this telescope ensures optimal performance.

Please note that the AA Battery Pack for the fans is not included.

For those seeking even greater optical perfection, the scope is fully compatible with our optional coma corrector, opening up new horizons in your astronomical pursuits..

Features:

  • Impressive 16-inch Aperture: This telescope boasts a substantial 16-inch (406mm) primary mirror, which allows it to gather an impressive amount of light. With over 2,400 times the light-gathering capacity of the human eye, it excels at revealing fine details on celestial objects.
  • 1,826 mm Focal Length: With its extended focal length, this telescope boasts remarkable magnification capabilities, rendering it an excellent choice for conducting intricate observations of planets, lunar landscapes, and intimate explorations of deep-sky celestial objects. Additionally, it promises enhanced image resolution when coupled with appropriate astrophotography equipment.

  • 800x Maximum Practical Magnification: The Dobsonian telescope's maximum practical magnification reaches an impressive 800x, enabling exceptionally detailed examinations of planets and lunar surfaces, uncovering intricate structures and fine features. Such high magnification is invaluable for dedicated planetary enthusiasts.

  • Advanced Optics: The telescope features a fast f/4.5 focal ratio. This configuration is ideal for deep-sky observations, providing wide fields of view and enabling you to capture stunning images of galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters.
  • Truss Tube Design: The truss tube design is both lightweight and sturdy. It allows for easy assembly and disassembly without the need for tools, making transportation and setup hassle-free, even in compact vehicles.
  • Precise Focusing: Equipped with a 2-inch focuser that incorporates helical gearing and offers a 10:1 reduction ratio, this telescope ensures precise and smooth focusing for sharp, detailed views.
  • Red Dot Finder: The telescope includes an LED Red Dot Finder, simplifying the process of locating and aligning celestial objects in the night sky. This feature is particularly useful for beginners.
  • Collimation Assist Tool: Achieving accurate collimation (alignment of optical components) is crucial for optimal image quality. This telescope comes with a collimation assist tool to facilitate this process, ensuring your optics are perfectly aligned.
  • Temperature Equilibrium: Two radial main mirror fans are integrated into the telescope to rapidly achieve temperature equilibrium. This feature reduces image distortion caused by temperature differences between the telescope and its surroundings.
  • Light Control: A soft light baffle is included to minimize stray light and enhance contrast during observations. This is especially valuable when observing faint celestial objects.
  • Optional Coma Corrector: For those seeking to correct optical aberrations and achieve pinpoint star images across the entire field of view, this telescope is ready for use with an optional coma corrector. This accessory enhances the overall optical performance of the telescope.
  • Included Accessories: This comprehensive package includes a precise LED Red Dot Finder, a sturdy rockerbox, a helpful collimation assist tool, a premium 2" HEX focuser with helical gearing, a light-absorbing soft baffle, efficient radial main mirror fans for rapid temperature stabilization, essential screws, clutches for smooth adjustments, and limited 1-year warranty for added assurance.

No more messing around!!

When I started looking for a new Scope, I knew I wanted a Dob. But not just any Dob. I knew that I didn’t want to mess around! I wanted a serious Dob for some deep sky observation! So, it came down to the 16 inch Truss Tube or the 20 inch Truss Tube. Ultimately, I realized that the 16 inch would give me enough power that I needed. Also, it fit in-line with my budget. If you’re considering/looking at purchasing a powerful Dobsonian, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with the Truss Tube series from ES.
