Explore Scientific ED152mm FCD-1 f/8 Carbon Fiber Air-Spaced APO Triplet Refractor

Presenting the Explore Scientific ED152mm f/8 Carbon Fiber Air-Spaced Triplet Telescope.

For serious amateur astronomers who appreciate apochromatic refractors, the challenge often lies in managing the size and weight when opting for instruments larger than 127mm.

This typically necessitates costly and hefty equatorial mounts.

However, the ED152, weighing in at just 20.5 lbs., pairs perfectly with mid-priced, lighter, and more portable equatorial mounts like the precision Losmandy G11 PMC-Eight, making it ideal for both high-quality astrophotography and serious visual observation.

With a 44% increase in light capture and image brightness compared to the ED127 Air-Spaced Triplet and a whopping 125% increase compared to the ED102 Air-Spaced Triplet, the ED152 Air-Spaced Triplet FCD1 Series in Carbon Fiber is a research-grade instrument, ready for demanding tasks.

This telescope enables you to observe intriguing phenomena such as moon transits with their shadows on Jupiter's surface, as well as intricate details and color variations within Jupiter's Great Red Spot and its equatorial cloud belts.

You can also resolve Saturn's rings, including Cassini's and Enke's Divisions, and explore substructures within the rings themselves.

When gazing at nebulae and galaxies, they appear exceptionally detailed, almost as if they are etched in crystal, even under less-than-ideal viewing conditions due to the telescope's unobstructed, high-contrast optical system.

Nebulae reveal intricate structures, giving the impression of observing through a much larger aperture telescope.

Plus, a wide array of accessories is available to cater to various observing needs.

Whether for a school or university observatory or to enhance the toolkit of a dedicated amateur astronomer, the ED152 Air-Spaced Triplet FCD1 Series in Carbon Fiber is a reliable workhorse optical instrument, ready to meet any observing or imaging requirement.

Features:

  • 152mm Objective Lens: The telescope boasts a large 152mm (6-inch) apochromatic objective lens, which is designed to reduce chromatic aberration for high-contrast and color-accurate views of celestial objects.
  • 1216mm Focal Length: With a substantial focal length of 1216mm, this telescope provides high magnification capabilities, making it ideal for detailed observations of planets, lunar features, and deep-sky objects. This focal length also contributes to improved image resolution for astrophotography.
  • 299x Highest Useful Magnification: The telescope supports a maximum useful magnification of 299x, allowing you to explore celestial objects with impressive clarity and detail. This high magnification is particularly advantageous for planetary observation.
  • Air-Spaced Triplet Optics: The telescope features an advanced air-spaced triplet optical design that includes genuine HOYA FCD1 ED Glass. This design minimizes optical aberrations and delivers sharp, high-contrast images across the entire field of view.
  • Carbon Fiber Construction: Its carbon fiber construction makes the telescope lightweight and sturdy. This material reduces thermal expansion and contraction, ensuring stable performance during temperature fluctuations, crucial for precise astronomical observations.
  • Versatile Mount Compatibility: Weighing in at only 20.5 lbs, this telescope is compatible with a wide range of equatorial mounts, including mid-priced, lighter, and portable options like the Losmandy G11 PMC-Eight, making it suitable for both visual astronomy and astrophotography.
  • Research-Grade Instrument: Offering a significant 44% increase in light grasp and image brightness compared to the ED127 Air-Spaced Triplet and a remarkable 125% increase compared to the ED102 Air-Spaced Triplet, the ED152 is a research-class instrument capable of handling demanding celestial observations and imaging tasks.
  • High-Quality Optics: The telescope's optical system provides high contrast, making celestial objects, such as nebulae and galaxies, appear exceptionally detailed. It offers the impression of observing through a much larger aperture telescope, even in less-than-optimal viewing conditions.
  • Wide Range of Accessories: Explore Scientific offers a comprehensive range of accessories compatible with this telescope, allowing you to tailor your setup to meet your specific observing or imaging requirements.
  • Ideal for Education and Amateur Astronomy: Whether used in a school or university observatory or as part of an amateur astronomer's toolkit, the ED152mm Telescope is a versatile and dependable optical instrument, ready to tackle a wide range of astronomical tasks.
  • Included Accessories: The package includes a 2" Diagonal with Extension tubes for enhanced image reflection, a sturdy Cradle Ring with handle for secure handling, a robust 2.5" Hex Focuser allowing for precise and smooth focusing, a versatile Losmandy-Style Dovetail Plate for secure telescope mounting, a Dew shield for moisture prevention & Limited 1-year warranty for customer support and peace of mind.

    The images are incredible

I will have this Scope for life. The images that I capture with it are incredible. Being that this Scope isn’t as heavy as most refractors with similar lens diameter size, I was luckily able to use one of my EQ Mounts that I already owned previous to purchasing this scope. However, I do plan on purchasing a new GoTo EQ mount soon, I just need to decide on which model to get.
