The Starizona Night Owl 0.4x SCT Reducer/Corrector Lens is an optical device designed to enhance astrophotography capabilities.

Specifically engineered for Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes (SCT), it reduces the telescope's effective focal length by a factor of 0.4x.

This reduction results in a wider field of view, making it easier to capture larger portions of the night sky in a single frame.

Additionally, the Night Owl corrects optical aberrations, enhancing image clarity and detail.

By using this reducer/corrector lens, photographers can achieve shorter exposure times while still obtaining high-quality, detailed astrophotographs.

With a 0.4x focal reduction factor, the field of view expands by 2.5x and exposure times are reduced by 6.25x!

This enables you to capture incredible detail with very short exposures.

The above images of M1 and M97 were taken with the Night Owl reducer on a Celestron 9.25” SCT using a ZWO ASI290MC uncooled color camera.

The Night Owl 0.4x Reducer employs a sophisticated 4-element optical design, ensuring exceptional image quality across a 16mm image circle.

With a generous backfocus distance of 38.5mm, it accommodates a wide range of popular one-shot-color CMOS and CCD cameras.

Additionally, it can seamlessly integrate with the Starizona Filter Slider for compatibility with numerous monochrome camera models, and provides ample backfocus for a filter wheel with certain camera models.

Encased in a 2" diameter body, this focal reducer is compatible with any standard 2" visual back or focuser on the rear of a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (SCT).

The camera side connection features a standard M42 T-thread, while M48 threads on the telescope side facilitate the use of a standard 2" filter.

While sensors larger than 16mm diagonal can be employed, they must be cropped to a 16mm format in order to maintain optimal image quality.

The photograph of M33 presented here was captured utilizing the Night Owl reducer in conjunction with a Celestron 9.25” SCT and a ZWO ASI294MC camera, which was cropped to a 16mm diagonal.

For monochrome cameras, compatibility with the Starizona Filter Slider is possible.

Depending on the specific backfocus requirements, certain cameras may also be able to utilize a filter wheel.

This image of the Orion Nebula was taken with the Night Owl reducer on a Celestron 8” SCT with an Atik 490EX monochrome camera using H-alpha and OIII narrowband filters. Total exposure time is only 10 minutes.

Adapters:

For optimal performance, it's crucial to maintain a backfocus distance of 38.5mm, as is the case with all field-flattening reducers.

For instance, if you're using a ZWO cooled camera with a 17.5mm backfocus, you'll require a 21mm T-thread spacer.

Notably, this adapter is provided with ZWO cooled cameras. In the case of other camera setups, you simply need the appropriate T-thread spacer to ensure your camera is positioned at the correct distance from the reducer.
