Explore Scientific Tirion Multi-Latitude Double-Sided  Planisphere - ES-TPS018

Presenting the Explore Scientific Tirion Double-Sided Multi-Latitude Planisphere—a guiding light through the universe's wonders.

Crafted by renowned celestial cartographer Wil Tirion, this planisphere covers a vast range of northern hemisphere latitudes, offering a comprehensive view of the night sky throughout the year.

Its double-sided design minimizes distortion, providing accurate and reliable guidance.

Crafted from durable plastic and secured with no-corrosion brass rivets, this planisphere stands the test of time, ensuring enduring stargazing experiences.

About Wil Tirion:

Hailing from The Netherlands, Wil Tirion has been shaping the world of star maps since the 1970s.

His journey as a professional uranographer gained momentum with the publication of the acclaimed Sky Atlas 2000.0 in 1981.

Tirion's expertise and passion infuse every detail of the Explore Scientific Tirion Planisphere, making it a trusted companion for both novice and seasoned stargazers alike.

How to Utilize the Tirion Planisphere:

Align the upper sheet with the corresponding local time and date. Adjust for daylight saving time by subtracting an hour.

This side reveals stars above the southern horizon, while the opposite side showcases those above the northern horizon.

Select the horizon line closest to your latitude for accuracy—e.g., for latitude 37°N, choose the 40°N horizon line.

The reverse side features horizon lines ranging from 0° (bottom) to 60°N (top).

Due to distortion near map edges, opt for the appropriate latitude on each side.

Constellations beyond the equator exhibit less distortion on the side opposite to the one showing South.

The brown dashed line represents the ecliptic, the sun's path. Bright planets near this line are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

The faint blue band illustrates the Milky Way, with the southern map revealing the SMC (Small Magellanic Cloud) and LMC (Large Magellanic Cloud)—galaxies considered Milky Way satellites.

Tirion’s planisphere incorporates symbols for star and deep-sky object identification, enhancing your celestial navigation experience.
